Social Services Task Force

The Social Services Task Force was convened in 2002 to address the needs of religious and their lay colleagues working in welfare works owned or sponsored by religious congregations. Although this sector has been a major work of congregations in past few years, fewer congregations now have a presence in welfare and religious personnel had a variety of questions about the present and the future of social welfare ministries. The Task Force aims to represent those in ministry, providing information and a support network; to provide a forum for discussion about the present and the future and to forge a strong relationship with the NSW Branch of Catholic Welfare Australia, a large organisation representing the other providers of Catholic welfare in NSW. This group meets four times per year at the CLRI(NSW) Offices in Rosebery.

"THE WAY WE CARE " Seminar

On August 15, 2006 the Social Services Task Force of CLRI(NSW) held its inaugural Seminar Day entitled THE WAY WE CARE, for congregational leaders, leadership teams, board members and personnel from congregational welfare ministries.
Facilitated by Tony Clark fms, the day addressed the social welfare situation nationally, in NSW and in our local areas.
Frank Quinlan, Executive Director of Catholic Social Services Australia and Robert Fitzgerald, Productivity Commissioner, inspired the participants with insightful comments on the state of social welfare in Australia and challenged us to continue our great service of those people "at the edge". There was consensus among participants that more work needs to be done to assist congregations in social welfare ministries to meet the challenges that lie ahead and the Social Services Task Force of CLRI(NSW) will consider what can be done to assist.
