LYN LEVO WORKSHOP

CLRI(NSW) is bringing Lynn Levo csj -the speaker at our 2011 Annual Conference- back to Australia in February 2012 for a number of presentations.

One of these is the now being advertised: a workshop for leaders and team members who have finished or are soon to finish their leadership stint.

SURVIVING AND THRIVING   MAINTAINING WELL-BEING WHILE TRANSITIONING FROM LEADERSHIP

A congregation has previously brought Lynn to Australia to present this workshop just for their group and reported that it was a wonderful experience.   This workshop focuses on leaders themselves as they move out of leadership roles.   While this transition may be welcomed, it can also be painful and full of unexpected emotions which may surface months prior to or after leaving leadership. This workshop draws on the experience of men and women who have weathered this transition and have gained valuable insights into the growth opportunities this particular kind of transition offers. Through presentations, storytelling, prayer and sharing, participants will gain new insights into dynamics of change and transition and learn new ways to anticipate and deal with the losses and opportunities of leave-taking.

The sessions, designed to be informative, practical and interactive, will include:

  • Moving from “CEO“ to “O” - from “in the loop” to “out of the loop”
  • Dealing with feelings - yours and others
  • Being the “lame duck” and finishing your term
  • Negotiating with new leaders
  • Changing relationships: good-byes and hellos
  • Designing your preferred future - both immediate and long term
  • Translating your leadership experience into meaningful ministry

 Please find attached the flyer and the registration form.

CLRI(NSW) welcomes participants from other states.

JUST IN TIME SEPTEMBER 2011 NOW AVAILABLE

"Making Homelessness History "

Working in social justice can take a heavy emotional toll. Often we encounter issues that have been with us for many years, and little progress seems to be made. This leaves us feeling that there are certain injustices that are unsolvable. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

UNDER 66 GATHERINGS 2011

For the second year, CLRI(NSW) is offering a gathering for religious under 66 years, this year in five different locations:

  • Casino for those in the north coast and tablelands area;

  • Lochinvar for the Hunter and Newcastle and surrounds;

  • Wagga Wagga for those in southern NSW;

  • and two Sydney locations -

    • Strathfield and

    • North Sydney.

Earlier in the year we advertised a date claimer and now ask you now to forward these registration sheets to the relevant members of your congregations. Any member under 66 is free to attend any gathering -in fact, it would be great if Sydney people felt like a trip to a country gathering and vice versa.

Making A Difference

Recently the Social Justice Committee of CLRI(NSW) met with the leaders who are the Executive Committee of CLRI(NSW). In conversation, SJC members asked what we could do to help our congregational members be more mindful of our impact on the earth.

 One suggestions was to do as some congregations have done and produce a small booklet that can act as a checklist for members.

So we offer the following suggestions and ask you let us know if you have other bright ideas that we have not mentioned.

Why Deny Climate Change?

"From the beginning of human existence we have pondered the great mysteries of our world, and scientists have often been at the forefront of this quest for answers ....."

The Social Justice Committee have put together vthis short paper on Climate Change Denial.

ARRCC Media Realease - Religious leaders rally for climate talks with PM

Twenty-eight of religious leaders of many different faith backgrounds will converge on Canberra on June 2nd to push for action on climate change. They will be meeting with Julia Gillard, Greg Hunt, Andrew Wilkie and around twenty other Members of Parliament on Thursday.

CLRI(NSW) will be represented by Jill Finnane, accompanied by other members of the CLRI(NSW) Social Justice Committee, at the June 2 meeting with Prime Minister Gillard on climate change.

Tell Me About Carbon Tax

In the media at present there is much about Prime Minister Julia Gillard saying Australia must set a price on carbon, declaring 2011 a year of delivery and decision for her Government.

Frances Egan, Research Officer for the CLRI(NSW) Social Justice Committee has produced a two page article simply explaining the carbon tax and giving some succinct reasons for its introduction.

Prison Reform in NSW

Available here is a media release calling for PRISON REFORM IN NSW.

CLRI(NSW) signed onto this media release with eleven other faith organisations because:

 "We seek to apply the values of compassion, healing and social justice to all members of society, including prisoners, who are often the forgotten ones - ‘out of sight, out of mind’. The measure of compassion and social justice we extend to prisoners reflects on the presence of those values in our society. We are actively involved in the pastoral care of prisoners through the prison chaplaincy programmes."

Memories of SIEV X-- and the victims of SIEV 221

Given the recent events on Christmas Island and the Leader of the Opposition’s constant mantra of “turn the boats back”

-it seems timely to distribute this article by Jim Carty sm to remind ourselves and our fellow Australians just who we would be turning back and the relatively small number who in fact arrive by boat when compared with those arriving in Europe and overstaying their visas in Australia

Edmund Rice Centre: Praise for Carbon Tax

Edmund Rice Centre

 The Edmund Rice Centre today congratulated the Federal Government on the decision to introduce a carbon price from July next year, with Green and independent support.

 The decision proposes an initial carbon tax rising at an agreed annual rate before moving to an emissions trading scheme with a market-determined price sometime between 2015 and 2017.

Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement

End secrecy in US Trans-Pacific trade negotiations say unions and community groups

CLRI(NSW) signs off on the release the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement text letter to Prime Minister Gillard.
